Do not eat any food for eight (8) hours prior to your appointment. You may drink clear liquids (water or apple juice) up to two (2) hours before the appointment.
It is important to inform us of the medications that you are currently taking, and any medical conditions that you have.
Please wear a short sleeve shirt and comfortable clothing. Do not wear any jewelry. Please remove all facial/ tongue piercings and contact lenses.
Advise your doctor of any medications you are currently taking. Continue taking daily medications (insulin, blood pressure pills, etc.) in your regular dosage unless otherwise instructed.
We will have you use the restroom before your appointment. If you need to use it after your sedation has begun, you will be escorted to and monitored in the restroom by the staff. If you have an overactive bladder, please wear an adult absorbent garment for any appointment over an hour.
Please make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you to and from the appointment. Your ride does need to stay in the office for your entire appointment. You will need a responsible care giver for 4-6 hours after your appointment. A taxi cab is not an acceptable ride option.
You must sign the consent forms for treatment and conscious sedation prior to taking the medication for sedation. Any documents signed after taking the medication for sedation are considered invalid.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment. Late arrival may necessitate rescheduling or cancellation of your appointment.
Please notify us if you develop a cold, sore throat, fever, or any other illness prior to your appointment.
Go home and rest for the remainder of the day. Episodes of drowsiness, dizziness and fainting may occur. If these symptoms occur, immediately sit or lay down and rest.
Begin your diet with clear liquids, then progress to full liquids (milk products such as milkshakes or creamed soups). Nausea can occur, usually small frequent meals help. If nausea persists for more than 4 hours, please give us a call.
No alcohol consumption or driving for 24 hours.
Do not sign any important documents or make any business decisions for 24 hours, as your memory of facts may be impaired.
Do not wear contact lenses for 24 hours.
For nursing mothers: no breast-feeding for 12 hours after sedation.
Allergic reactions are extremely rare with the medications being used. However, please call the office if you feel something is abnormal such as difficulty breathing, swallowing or general rash and severe itching.
